Train Collides with Unoccupied Parked Pickup Truck; Driver Faces Drug Charges

Early this morning, on April 18th, at around 12:15 am, Saline County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a collision between a train and a parked pickup truck at the railroad tracks near K-140 Highway and Halstead Road.

The truck, identified as a 1998 red Chevy 1500, was parked on the tracks facing eastbound when it was struck by a train traveling from the west. Fortunately, the truck was unoccupied at the time. Deputies located the driver, Mackenzie Taylor Lewis, a 25-year-old male, in the vicinity.

Lewis admitted to parking on the tracks. Methamphetamine was discovered both in the truck and in Lewis' possession. He now faces charges including possession of methamphetamine, parking where prohibited, and no proof of insurance.

Deputies found Lewis walking near I-135 and K-140 Highway shortly after the accident occurred, around 12:38 am.
