An Evening with Kevin Willmott

“An Evening with Kevin Wilmott” is coming to the Salina Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 901 Beatrice, 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, September 22. The public is invited. Admission is free.

Wilmott will present his overview of the unique challenges facing all citizens today. He is a well-known filmmaker and professor at the University of Kansas, beginning his college education at Marymount of Salina.

His formal presentation will be a video of his recent talk in Douglass County. Following that, Wilmott will take questions and comments. The forum will encourage a pre-election community conversation about the forces shaping our state and country, including Kansas’ history as a free state, its economic realities, and the influence of racism.

Wilmott recounts and explores Kansas and US history as experienced through the lens of his own life. Willmott’s family escaped the south to settle in Junction City, where he grew up before attending Marymount College. He went on to become an actor, a well-known independent filmmaker, and later a professor (now emeritus) at the University of Kansas. He has collaborated with Spike Lee, with whom he shared an Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay for BlacKkKlansman.
