Salina Man Arrested After Knife Assault and Disturbance on Gypsum Avenue
Salina Police arrested a man following a disturbance involving a knife in the 1200 block of Gypsum Avenue late Wednesday night.
Around 8:50 p.m. on October 22, officers were dispatched after reports of a disturbance involving a potentially armed suspect.
Investigators say 39-year-old Demetrius Carruthers of Salina allegedly swung a knife at a 32-year-old male inside his residence. The victim fled the house, but Carruthers reportedly chased him outside, where the victim either fell or was pushed to the ground. Carruthers then began hitting and kicking the man until neighbors intervened, telling him to stop and warning that police were being called.
Carruthers allegedly threatened two women, ages 53 and 57, who witnessed the assault and said they were contacting police.
Officers arrived and took Carruthers into custody without incident. The victim was transported to Salina Regional Health Center with a head laceration and multiple contusions. No stab or slice wounds were confirmed.
Police later obtained a search warrant for Carruthers’ residence. He was booked on charges of aggravated battery, two counts of criminal threat, and two counts of intimidation of a witness.
