Combine Destroyed in Rural Saline County Fire

A combine was destroyed in a fire on October 22 at 5:04 p.m. in the 4900 block of East North Street. Deputies from the Saline County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene, where members of Rural Fire District 5 were already working to extinguish the flames engulfing the combine.

The owner, identified as Ricky Leister of rural Saline County, reported that he had been harvesting soybeans when he heard popping sounds and noticed the combine’s hydraulic fluid had ignited. The early 2000s model John Deere combine, along with its header, was valued at approximately $40,000 and was declared a total loss. About $400 worth of soybeans were also destroyed in the fire.
