Headless Deer Discovered in Salina, Authorities Investigating
A dead white-tailed buck with its head removed was discovered on Halloween, October 31st, around 11:40 a.m., in the 1900 block of North Kip Road near the intersection of Kip and Stemmel. The resident who found the deer reported hearing a gunshot in the area the previous day, October 30th, at approximately 4:30 p.m. No vehicles or suspects were observed at the time.
Authorities noted the incident could be considered both poaching—taking game out of season or without a license—and “wanton waste,” which refers to killing wildlife without harvesting the meat. Bow hunting season had just begun the previous Saturday. Rifle season is scheduled to begin on December 3rd.
Kansas Game Wardens have been notified, and law enforcement said they have limited leads while working to identify the responsible party.
