Salina Resident Loses $4,000 in Facebook Inheritance Scam

Salina Police are investigating a fraud case involving a 65-year-old resident who was scammed out of $4,000 through a Facebook scheme.

The scam began in early October when the victim was contacted by a woman claiming she had inherited $1.6 billion and intended to share a portion of the money. The suspect, along with an individual posing as an attorney, convinced the victim to send $4,000 in Apple gift cards to cover supposed legal fees and paperwork.

Investigators said the scam appeared to involve multiple individuals working together. Authorities are reminding the public to be cautious of unsolicited offers of money and to never send gift cards or payments to unknown persons.

The investigation is ongoing.
