Man Arrested After Two Separate Encounters With Deputies

The Saline County Sheriff’s Office reported two incidents involving the same individual on Tuesday, resulting in an arrest on multiple charges.

The first incident occurred at approximately 3:13 p.m. at Cunningham Road and East North Street after deputies were dispatched for a welfare check. Deputies contacted Malik Dorsey, 25, who was walking with a large trash bag and other belongings, creating a potential traffic hazard. According to the sheriff’s office, Dorsey became verbally hostile but had not committed any crime or traffic violation. He refused assistance and left the area on foot. No enforcement action was taken at that time.

The second incident was reported at about 6:06 p.m. in the 9800 block of East Country Club Road. Deputies responded to reports of an individual throwing rocks at passing vehicles, causing damage to at least two. Upon arrival, a deputy encountered the suspect, identified again as Dorsey. The sheriff’s office stated that he approached aggressively and did not comply when informed he was under arrest for property damage.

A physical struggle ensued. Two civilians—including a 57-year-old victim from Hope whose vehicle had been damaged—assisted the deputy. The civilian received a cut to his hand during the incident.

Dorsey was transported to the hospital for evaluation and later booked into the Saline County Jail. He faces charges including two counts of criminal damage to property, interference with law enforcement, disorderly conduct, and one count of battery on a civilian.

The sheriff’s office noted that one victim felt threatened and drove with her children to the sheriff’s office during the sequence of events. Deputies reported no signs of drug or alcohol impairment during their interactions, though Dorsey was uncooperative.
