Threat Call Prompts Temporary Lockdown at Salina Regional Health Center
Salina Police responded to a reported threat at Salina Regional Health Center early Sunday morning after authorities received a phone call indicating a potential active shooter situation.
At approximately 2:00 a.m. on January 4th, an unknown individual contacted authorities and threatened to travel to Salina Regional Health Center armed with a rifle and shoot people. In response to the threat, hospital officials immediately implemented lockdown procedures as a precautionary measure.
Law enforcement officers responded to the hospital and conducted surveillance and safety checks of the area. No suspect arrived at the location, and no physical threat was located. The incident was determined to be limited to the threatening phone call.
During the investigation, officers noted the caller mispronounced the name “Salina,” which may indicate the individual was not a local resident. No injuries were reported, and no damage occurred.
The decision to enter and exit lockdown status was managed by Salina Regional Health Center administration, with law enforcement providing support and guidance. Officials noted that the duration of a lockdown can vary depending on the circumstances and is determined by hospital leadership after evaluating potential risks.
The source of the threat call remains under investigation. Salina Police continue to work to identify the individual responsible.
