Carolyn Sue Goodwin

Carolyn Sue Goodwin, 66, of Salina, KS passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones on February 23,2026, after a surprise stage IV cancer diagnosis.
Carolyn was a perfect example of what kindness, empathy and compassion can be and how far those simple principles can take you. She dedicated her last 23 years of her life to teaching children at Meadowlark Ridge Elementary and was a beloved member of the MLR family.
Post retirement in May 2025, she continued her philanthropic efforts by volunteering at the Food Bank and Salina Shares until November of 2025.
She will be missed by so many people throughout the Salina community.
She is survived by her husband, David Lee Goodwin, son, Nolan Robert Goodwin, and her sister Jan Johannes.
A Celebration of life will be held at a later date, details to come.
Memorials can be made in Carolyn’s honor to Salina DVACK, Salina Shares, or the Salina Food Bank.

Evelyn Lillian Messer Holmes

Evelyn Lillian Messer Holmes, age 103, of Salina, KS, passed away peacefully on February 24, 2026. She was born on June 13, 1922, in Joplin, MO to Alonzo E Messer and Alma G Baker.
Evelyn married Robert E. Hervey on August 5, 1938, in San Diego, CA, and they welcomed their daughter, Rosalie, before divorcing in 1941. On October 3, 1942, she married Master Sergeant Wallace M Holmes, Jr. of Barnstable, MA, in San Diego. Their son, Wallace M Holmes, III, was born from this union, and Wallace later adopted Rosalie. Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband and son. Her daughter, Rosalie, passed away within five hours of Evelyn.
Evelyn lived a remarkably full life spanning more than a century. As a child, she worked alongside her mother and brother in Southern California fields. During WWII, she contributed to the war effort making sandwiches for ship builders in the San Diego Navy yards. Through her marriage to Wallace, she experienced life around the world, living in Japan, Germany, and throughout the United States. Germany held a special place in her heart. After retirement, Evelyn and Wallace traveled extensively across the US in their motor home with their beloved dogs, spending winters in Quartzsite, AZ.
She is survived by seven grandchildren: Cassandra Warner of West Valley City, UT; Deborah Holmes of Salina, KS; Rebecca Burrows of MO; Rosemarie Walter (Brent) of Salina, KS; Christina Christensen (Jerry) of St George, UT; Jerry Warner of Riverton, UT; and Wallace M Holmes, IV of Salina, KS, along with many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
As per her request, there will be no funeral services. Her ashes, along with those of her husband and dogs, will be spread in Quartzsite, AZ, where they most enjoyed life.

Stanley Jerome Harris, 71, departed this life on Saturday February 21, 2026, at Kenwood Rehabilitation and Nursing Home in Salina. He was born in Nelson County, VA, January 20, 1955, to the late James and Verdie Harris.
He was baptized at an early age, along with six of his siblings at Mount Eagle Baptist Church. He was brought up in the church. He kept his faith by always attending church and praising God.
After getting out of the Army, he was employed by the United States Postal Service. He worked there until he retired. He became an ordained minister in November 1988.
He is preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Rosa L. Martin and Elizabeth A. Harris. One brother, Joseph L. Harris and one nephew, Everett Harris and a niece Symone Harris.
He leaves to cherish his memory, three brothers Alfred (Joyce) Harris, Waynesboro, VA, Raymond (Doris) Harris, Lumberton, NC, Dale Harris, Raeford, NC, one sister Sharon Harris, Afton, VA and numerous nieces, nephews, and other loving relatives and friends. In addition, he leaves behind two uncles, Robert (Ordee) Banks and Guy (Debra) Banks and one aunt, Malinda Banks.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, March 3, at 11:00 at Mount Eagle Baptist Church, Nellysford, VA with Pastor Matthew Grooms officiating. Burial will follow at 2:00 pm at the Culpeper National Cemetery in Culpeper, VA. Funeral arrangements in Virginia were made with Wells/Sheffield Funeral Chapel of Lovingston, VA.
