KS Providence Becomes New Number One Wheat Variety
KS Providence, this year’s top-planted variety, accounts for 5.8% of the State’s 2026 wheat planted acres. SY Wolverine ranks second at 4.5%. AP Prolific is third at 3.5%. Bob Dole ranks fourth at 3.3%. Canvas is the fifth most popular variety at 2.8%. AP Bigfoot and SY Monument tie for sixth place at 2.5%. Winterhawk ranks eighth at 2.4%. Whistler is ninth at 2.2%. Rock Star and WB 4792, tied at 2.1%, round out the top ten.
Area planted with blended varieties is not included in the rankings by variety. Blends account for 8.9% of the State’s planted acreage, up from 8.5% last year. Hard white varieties account for 1.6% of the State’s acreage, down from 3.6% last year.
