Commissioner Doug Rempp Issues Letter on Animal Shelter Concerns
Dear Community Members,
I am writing to address the recent press coverage, posts, and public discussion surrounding our animal shelter. I want to assure the community that the well-being of the animals in our care and the integrity of our shelter remain a top priority.
I have heard the concerns being raised. Our city has acknowledged that mistakes were made and that poor judgment was used in certain situations. These matters are serious, and the future of the shelter will be discussed in greater detail on Monday.
Our shelter team works every day to provide care and a safe environment for the animals entrusted to them. At the same time, I understand many in the community are asking for accountability, change, and greater transparency. I have heard from many of you, I have listened, and I will continue to do so. I will represent those concerns as these discussions move forward.
My wife and I care deeply about animals, and I have a personal interest in seeing the shelter improve. I am committed to supporting efforts to increase adoption rates and help create a better future for the animals in our care. The compassion this community has shown for those animals is meaningful and appreciated.
As this process moves forward, I ask the community to allow room for thoughtful discussion and improvement. I have heard your concerns, and I will continue working to represent them with our city leadership.
Sincerely,
Commissioner Doug Rempp
