Salina Animal Shelter Receives Satisfactory Rating in State Re-Inspection
The City of Salina announced that the Salina Animal Shelter received a “Satisfactory” rating following a re-inspection by the Kansas Department of Agriculture on March 17, 2026.
The re-inspection came after a previous inspection in January identified areas requiring improvement. According to the city, shelter leadership and staff took corrective action to address the issues noted in that earlier review.
The city said the updated inspection found the shelter had corrected or was actively addressing previously identified concerns.
According to the official report, the facility’s result was deemed satisfactory.
The city said the re-inspection included review of facility conditions, equipment, records, documentation, veterinary oversight, and medication logs.
Among the findings highlighted by the city:
Previously identified issues were corrected or actively addressed
Facility and equipment updates were completed, including replacement of worn items
Records and documentation were verified as complete and compliant
Veterinary oversight and medication documentation were found to meet state requirements
The report also noted that food storage met proper standards, required records were maintained, euthanasia procedures were performed under veterinary authorization, and the shelter’s Veterinary Care Form is current through 2027.
The City of Salina said the shelter worked with state inspectors throughout the process and remains focused on continued improvement and compliance with state regulations.
The re-inspection follows increased public attention surrounding the shelter after the January inspection and broader concerns raised in recent months about shelter operations.
