Horse Barn Fire in Rural Saline County Kills Animals, Causes Over $100K in Loss

SALINE COUNTY, Kan. — Authorities are investigating a structure fire that destroyed a horse barn and resulted in significant loss of animals and property late Monday night in rural Saline County.

According to the Saline County Sheriff’s Office, the fire was reported on March 23, 2026, at approximately 10:23 p.m. in the 3000 block of South Burma Road.

A metal and wood horse barn was completely destroyed in the fire. Inside the structure were five show horses, all of which died. The estimated loss of the horses is approximately $100,000. Additionally, four dogs were killed in the fire.

Miscellaneous tools, horse equipment, feed, and supplements stored in the barn were also destroyed, with an estimated loss of $7,179.

The total estimated loss from the incident is approximately $107,179. The value of the barn itself has not yet been determined.

The cause of the fire remains unknown at this time. The Saline County Sheriff’s Office has requested assistance from the Kansas State Fire Marshal’s Office, and the investigation is ongoing.
