General Atomics opens downtown Salina office, holds ribbon cutting with Chamber
General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. is adding its name to Salina’s growing aerospace and advanced-technology presence with a new downtown office at 100 S. Santa Fe.
The company held a ribbon cutting Thursday, April 9, with the Salina Area Chamber of Commerce, marking its local office opening and formalizing its presence in the city’s business community. The Salina Area Chamber directory lists GA-ASI at the downtown address and shows the company became a member in 2026.
The new office gives Salina a local footprint for a company already connected to some of the U.S. Air Force’s most prominent next-generation aviation efforts.
Earlier this year, the Air Force designated General Atomics’ Collaborative Combat Aircraft prototype as the YFQ-42A, one of the uncrewed aircraft being developed to operate alongside fifth- and sixth-generation fighters. The Air Force later said the YFQ-42A entered ground testing in May 2025 and moved into flight testing by August 2025.
That work connects General Atomics to a broader shift in future military aviation.
The Air Force has identified Collaborative Combat Aircraft as part of its long-term force structure tied to new platforms including the F-47. In March 2025, Boeing was awarded the contract for the F-47 under the Next Generation Air Dominance program, and Air Force leaders said in February 2026 that programs such as the F-47 and Collaborative Combat Aircraft are part of the service’s future force design.
General Atomics has continued advancing that work in 2026. In March, the company said it completed another autonomy flight exercise with the Air Force focused on Collaborative Combat Aircraft operations, highlighting its continued role in the development of unmanned and autonomous systems.
While one downtown office does not instantly transform a city, the opening is another signal that Salina continues to strengthen its position in aerospace and adjacent smart-tech sectors.
With the ribbon cutting now complete and a downtown address established, General Atomics becomes the latest high-profile name to add to Salina’s evolving business and aviation landscape.
