HiCo. takes top prize at 2026 Charlie Walker Pitch Challenge; five businesses earn awards
Entrepreneurs from across the region were recognized April 1 at the fifth annual Charlie Walker Pitch Challenge. The competition awarded $16,000 to the top five finalists after participants submitted business plans, elevator-pitch videos, and live presentations. The event is open to startups and businesses that have been operating for three years or less.
Taking first place and a $6,000 award was HiCo., presented by Liam Deniau-Young. Public descriptions of the business say HiCo. is built around guided backcountry hiking experiences, offering gear, meals, and navigation support for travelers looking for multi-day trips in more remote settings.
Second place and $4,000 went to The Maker’s Shop, led by Rindi and Matt Guldner. The concept is described as an art supply boutique and hands-on creative space in Lindsborg, with plans to combine retail offerings and project-based activities in a setting focused on creativity and community connection.
Finishing third and earning $3,000 was This Moment Mobile Events LLC, owned by Kellen and Yessenia Womochil. The business already offers event services including photo booth and audio guest-book experiences, and organizers say the couple plans to use the award to expand those offerings further. The company’s public website lists Yessi and Kellen and promotes its photo booth, camper booth, and audio guest-book services.
In fourth place, Casa Dolores Café, presented by Angelica Carrillo-Hernandez, received $2,000. The business is planned as a mobile coffee trailer centered on culturally inspired drinks, with a focus on creating a welcoming space built around coffee, tradition, and community.
Rounding out the top five was Bobby’s Bees, led by William Hieronymus, which received $1,000 for fifth place. Public information describes Bobby’s Bees as a Salina-based honey business that began in 2025 and is working to grow production through additional hives and expanded honey-related products.
The Charlie Walker Pitch Challenge is named in honor of local businessman Charlie Walker. This year’s event featured eight finalists competing for the five cash awards.
