Salina Symphony Presents Meditative Concert With Riley's "In C"
The Salina Symphony's Out of the Box series returns Saturday, April 25, at 7 p.m. at Theatre Salina's Sunflower Financial (Black Box) Theatre with "What is Music" – Out of the Box: Meditation.
This meditative concert invites audiences to reimagine the traditional performance experience through sound, spontaneity, and connection.
The evening features Terry Riley's groundbreaking minimalist masterpiece "In C," a mesmerizing work that transforms with each performance. Musicians move freely through 53 short musical phrases anchored by a steady pulse in the key of C, creating hypnotic rhythms and shifting textures that make every performance a unique sensory journey.
The program also includes John Cage's unpredictable "Five" and "Dream," featuring Hannah Applequist on marimba in a hypnotizing exploration of space, resonance, and quiet intensity.
A talk back with Maestro Segal will follow the performance.
