Salina had two names on KSHSAA’s latest list of longtime athletic officials. Brian E. Duncan and Troy L. Olson, both of Salina, were recognized this week for 30 years of service as part of the Kansas State High School Activities Association’s winter 2026 officials recognition program.

For Duncan, the honor lines up with a long run in local schools. South Middle School’s May 2025 newsletter said Duncan retired at the end of the 2024-25 school year after 30 years at South Middle School and 36 years in public education. A 2020 KSHSAA journal also listed Brian Duncan of Salina as a wrestling official with 25 years of service at that time, which fits with this year’s 30-year recognition.

Olson’s name may be less familiar to some casual fans, but he has also been part of the local officiating scene for years. A Southeast of Saline district post thanked local official Troy Olson for speaking with students in the school’s Intro to Officiating class and sharing his experience, a reminder that the work does not stop with calling games on Friday nights or during tournament season.

KSHSAA said 57 officials statewide were honored this year, with milestones ranging from 20 to 60 years. Salina’s two honorees were both part of the 30-year group, giving the city a pair of names on a list built around longevity, consistency and service to Kansas high school athletics.
