First April thunderstorm brings hail, supercell north of Salina Thursday night

The first thunderstorm of April brought a reminder Thursday night that storm season has arrived in Saline County, with hail reported near East Borough Road and a supercell spotted north of Salina.

At approximately 9:45 p.m. Thursday, April 9, Kansas Storm Chasing reported quarter-size hail near East Borough Road in Saline County as storms moved through the area.

In addition to the hail report, a supercell was spotted north of Salina in Saline County, with continuous lightning observed during the storm. Trained weather spotters also reported seeing streak lightning as the system moved through the area.

The storm served as the first real taste of April severe weather in the area, with the lightning and hail providing a strong early-season reminder that spring storm season is underway in central Kansas.
