Salina Central Mall was among the local properties damaged after overnight storms moved through Salina, bringing large hail, heavy rain and reports of water damage across parts of the city.
Photos shared by Tim Bette’s Storm Chaser show ceiling tiles down, debris on the floor and water inside portions of the mall following the storm. The damage appears to have come after hail and rain impacted the building overnight.
The storm moved through after midnight and brought large hail to the Salina area. Public storm reports indicated hail around 2 inches was reported in Salina at approximately 12:30 a.m., according to a National Weather Service warning summary. The warning noted that hail of that size can damage roofs, siding, windows and vehicles.
Other reports from the area described golf ball-sized hail, roof damage, damaged vehicles, tree damage and standing water inside parts of Central Mall. Storm-related roof damage at the mall prompted its closure Monday, with photos showing ceiling tile debris and water on the floor.
While the storm did not produce a tornado in Salina, the damage shows how severe thunderstorms can still create significant property issues through hail, wind and heavy rain. Vehicle lots, homes, businesses and roofs across the city may continue to show damage as residents and property owners assess the impact.
Salina311 will continue following storm damage reports and cleanup efforts across the area.
