Local Developers Discussing Possible Alamo Drafthouse Theater for Downtown Salina

Local developers have been in talks with Alamo Drafthouse Cinema about the possibility of bringing a modern movie theater concept to downtown Salina.

The proposed facility would include multiple screens and would follow Alamo Drafthouse’s theater model, which combines movies with dining, bar service and craft beer. No final agreement, location, timeline or construction plan has been publicly announced.

Alamo Drafthouse operates both corporate and franchise locations. Those familiar with the discussions have pointed to the company’s Springfield, Missouri location as a possible comparison for the Salina market. That location includes multiple auditoriums and additional food and beverage amenities.

The discussions come as Salina faces the loss of its longtime movie theater option. AMC Theatres previously confirmed that AMC Salina 10 would permanently cease operations after storm-related roof failure and water damage at Central Mall. AMC also notified area rewards members that their preferred theater was closed and that the nearest AMC location is in Manhattan.

If a downtown theater project moves forward, it would mark a major entertainment development for Salina and could fill a gap left by the closure of AMC Salina 10. It would also add another potential anchor attraction to downtown, where restaurants, bars, shops and entertainment venues already draw regular foot traffic.

At this point, the proposal remains in the discussion stage. Salina311 will continue following the potential project as more details become available.
