Salina Family YMCA Brings Back Grab N Go Summer Food Program
The Salina Family YMCA has announced the return of its Grab N Go Summer Food Program, which provides free meals for youth and families throughout the summer months.
The program is designed to help ensure children have access to nutritious meals while school is not in session. Families can pick up meals weekly through the summer.
Each Grab N Go bag includes five breakfasts and five suppers, covering Saturday through Wednesday. Meal pickup takes place every Friday from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., or until supplies run out.
Pickup is available in the parking lot between 1512 Rush Street and 1600 Rush Street. Participants should enter from Republic Street through Sunset Park and follow signage to the designated pickup location.
Families are asked to register children each week in advance for the upcoming Friday pickup. YMCA officials said weekly registration helps determine food supply and reduces wait times. If registration is full, families may go to the pickup site from 5:30 to 6:00 p.m. to check whether extra bags are available.
Meals are provided in take-home Grab N Go bags. Meals must be picked up by a parent or guardian unless the child is picking up the meals themselves.
Children who receive meals from another Summer Food Service Program site, such as summer school, the fieldhouse, Castle, or another location, are not eligible to pick up meals from the YMCA Grab N Go program for that week.
“Our goal is to make sure no child goes without a meal during the summer,” said Stacy Jagodzinske, Child Nutrition Director at the Salina Family YMCA. “This program is a simple and accessible way for families to get the support they need.”
The YMCA is also seeking volunteers to help distribute meals and support the program each week.
