Breaking: Salina Police Rescue Dog Locked Inside Downtown Vehicle
Salina311 spoke with the Salina Police Department regarding reports of a dog locked inside a vehicle on Santa Fe, across from Campbell Plaza.
According to SPD, officers were contacted around 5:00 p.m. by staff from the animal shelter after a dog was found inside a van downtown. Police said the temperature inside the van was approximately 96 degrees.
The vehicle was registered out of Nebraska, and officers were initially unable to locate the owner. A Salina police officer broke a window to rescue the dog.
Police said the dog was OK after being removed from the vehicle. From there, the animal shelter handled the follow-up. SPD said the owner was later located, but police did not have information on what action, if any, animal shelter staff took regarding a citation.
No additional details were immediately available.
