Salina Seeks Volunteers for Citizen Boards and Commissions
The City of Salina is seeking residents interested in serving on a wide range of citizen boards, commissions and committees.
Vacancies are currently open, or will soon be open, on the following boards:
Accessibility Advisory Board
- Three people with a disability
- One citizen-at-large
- Two youth members
Animal Control Advisory and Appeals Board
- Two citizens-at-large
- Two youth members
Arts & Humanities Commission
- Three citizens-at-large
- Two youth members
Board of Zoning Appeals
- One Salina resident
- Two youth members
Building Advisory Board
- One mechanical master/journeyman
- One plumbing contractor
- One electrical contractor
- One realtor
- Two youth members
Business Improvement District Advisory Board
- Five citizens who conduct business within the Business Improvement District
Business Improvement District Design Review
- One citizen-at-large
- One design professional
- One BID business owner
Community Art and Design Advisory Committee
- Two citizens-at-large
Convention and Tourism Committee
- One citizen-at-large
Disciplinary Advisory Board
- Five Salina residents
Heritage Commission
- One citizen in one of the following professions: archeologist, landscape architect, architectural historian or urban planner
- One architect
- Two youth members
Housing Authority
- Three Salina residents
Human Relations Commission
- Three citizens who are members of an ethnic or minority group
- Two citizens-at-large
- Two youth members
Law Enforcement Citizen Review Board
- Two citizens-at-large with a demonstrated interest or experience in police and/or community relations and/or who reflect the racial and ethnic diversity of the City of Salina
Parks & Recreation Advisory Board
- One citizen-at-large
- Two youth members
Planning Commission
- Three citizens-at-large
- Two outside representatives who live in Saline County, outside the City of Salina, but within three miles of Salina city limits
- Two youth members
Saline County Community Corrections Advisory Board
- Three citizens-at-large, with preference for those representing law enforcement, education, social services, judiciary, prosecution, corrections and ethnic minorities
Solid Waste Management Committee
- Three Salina residents
- One resident of the unincorporated area of the county nominated by Saline County. Applicants for that seat must apply at salinecountyks.gov/boards-committees
- Two youth members
The Youth on Board program allows people ages 15 to 20 who attend a secondary or post-secondary school to serve one-year terms on certain boards listed above.
Residents interested in serving are asked to complete an expression-of-interest form.
The deadline to apply for the Saline County Community Corrections Advisory Board is July 1, 2026. Applications for all other boards should be received by July 31, 2026.
