June 7, 2026 Obituary, Cynthia Ramsey
Salina Teacher, Mentor and Servant Leader Cynthia “Cindy” Ramsey Remembered

October 22, 1945 – June 3, 2026

Cynthia Joyce Maria (Webber) Ramsey, lovingly known as “Sookie” by her grandchildren, passed away peacefully at her home in Salina, Kansas, on June 3, 2026. She was 80 years old.

Cindy was born October 22, 1945, in Arkansas City, Kansas, to Clint James Webber II and Shirley Jean (McCullough) Webber. She grew up in Arkansas City and Emporia, graduated from Emporia High School, and earned her bachelor’s degree in education from Emporia State University, where she was a member of Alpha Sigma Tau sorority.

It was at Emporia State that she met her husband of 59 years, Mark Ramsey. The couple married in 1967 and settled in Salina. Cindy later earned a master’s degree in early childhood education from Kansas State University and received the Certified Family Life Educator designation.

A passionate educator for more than five decades, Cindy taught Latin at St. John’s Military School and founded and directed Love ’n’ Learn Preschool. She served countless students and families through USD 305 schools, including Roosevelt-Lincoln, South High School and Central High School, as well as Sacred Heart, Salina Head Start, CASA, CAPS, Cornerstone Classical School, Cloud County Community College and other programs.

Cindy also served on the Emporia State University Alumni Board and was honored with the Salina Public Schools Master Teacher Award in 2008. Known for her creativity, she often dressed as historical figures to bring lessons to life, inspiring generations of students with enthusiasm, encouragement and care.

Sookie’s life centered on faith, family and service. She and Mark created lasting memories through annual family summer road trips in their red van, visiting every state in the continental United States except Wisconsin. She rarely missed a grandchild’s game, performance or milestone.

Her servant’s heart was reflected through volunteer work with CASA, CAPS, youth groups, Vacation Bible School, foreign exchange programs, the Smoky Hill River Festival and numerous mission trips to Mexico.

Cindy’s Christian faith was the foundation of her life. She loved teaching Latin and often shared Psalm 100 and the Lord’s Prayer. She lived by the phrases “Affirmatio,” meaning “Make Strong,” and “Pax Dei,” meaning “Peace of God.” She found joy in singing in the choir and sewing handmade gifts, especially laundry bags for graduating seniors, sometimes making as many as 42 in a year.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Mark Ramsey; her brother, Clint “Tiger” Webber III and his wife, Denice, of Derby, Kansas; daughters Cerci Ramsey-Munson and her husband, Mike, and Marci Ramsey; grandchildren Corbin Munson and his wife, Kalina, Cayman Munson, Maddie Chandler and her husband, Michael, Caroline Donatell and Wyatt Donatell; great-grandchildren Berkley and Kollyns Chandler; as well as nieces, nephews, extended family members, former students and friends.

Te in perpetuum amabimus, Sookie. You will be deeply missed.

A Celebration of Life and memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 15, 2026, at First Covenant Church, 2625 E. Magnolia Road, Salina, Kansas. A reception will follow at the church.

The service will be livestreamed at fccsalina.com.

In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes memorials to Gentiva Hospice, CAPS, or Cornerstone Classical School: Mrs. Ramsey’s Latin Scholar Scholarship Fund, in care of Ryan Mortuary, Salina.
