Senior Residents Without Power May Need Food and Water Help at Oakdale and Johnstown Apartments; Law Enforcement Notified

Salina311 has received reports that senior residents at 125 S. Oakdale Ave. and 623 Johnstown Ave. may need help with food and water after storm-related power outages affected both locations.

Jay Vanier told Salina311 he has been to both buildings and reported that both are without power. He said some residents are avoiding opening refrigerators in an effort to preserve what food they still have. He also said residents on the upper floors, including the fourth, fifth, and sixth floors, may have limited access to food and water.

“We’re going to have to buy them sandwiches and hopefully get a couple more volunteers,” Vanier said. “We’re going to have to run food and water up to these people.”

Salina311 spoke with the Salina Police Department about the situation. Police advised they are sending an officer to the scene.

At this time, Salina311 is not aware of a formal food or water distribution system set up specifically for these residents. Those who feel called to help may consider bringing food, bottled water, or other immediate assistance directly to the affected locations.

Anyone assisting should be respectful of residents, building access, and any directions from law enforcement, property staff, or emergency personnel on scene.
