SPONSORED: Jay Vanier Says Topeka Needs a Course Correction
Saline County voters will head to the polls August 4, and Kansas House District 71 candidate Jay Vanier is making a straightforward pitch: lower taxes, bigger paychecks.
Vanier, a Republican candidate for the Kansas House, says his campaign is centered on three issues he believes need to change in Topeka: property tax reform, education results, and cutting regulation.
On taxes, Vanier argues Kansans are carrying too much of the load. His campaign handout says Kansas has the highest commercial property tax rate, the highest income tax rate, and the second-highest residential property tax rate among neighboring states.
On education, Vanier points to declining academic performance, saying Kansas has fallen sharply in 4th-grade reading and math rankings. He says the state needs to get serious about results and supports a Literacy-Based Promotion Act.
On regulation, Vanier says Kansas has piled up too many rules. According to his campaign message, the state carries 70,000 regulations written in more than 3.2 million words, and he says he would work to review and eliminate outdated rules while naming one regulation every week that should be removed.
Vanier says his broader goal is to make Kansas “a more desirable and affordable place to live, raise a family, build a business, and retire.”
The Republican primary is set for Tuesday, August 4.
