Salina Fire Department Outlines Fireworks Rules Ahead of Fourth of July
The Salina Fire Department has issued a reminder to residents regarding the city's fireworks ordinance ahead of the Independence Day holiday. Under City of Salina regulations, fireworks may be discharged within city limits only on July 3 and July 4, between 8:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m. Violations can result in a notice to appear and fines.
City ordinance requires that fireworks be used only on private property with the property owner's consent. Fireworks are prohibited on public property, roadways, and in or from vehicles. Discharge is also banned within 100 feet of hospitals, nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and other restricted locations.
The department noted that recent storms have left brush, limbs, and other debris in yards and properties across the area, increasing the risk of fire if fireworks land nearby. Residents are advised to clear debris where possible and keep a bucket of water, fire extinguisher, or garden hose readily available when using fireworks. Additional safety guidelines include lighting one firework at a time, never relighting malfunctioning fireworks, supervising children, and fully soaking spent fireworks before disposal.
Residents are asked not to call 911 for fireworks complaints unless a fire or related emergency is occurring. Non-emergency fireworks complaints can be reported to 785-826-7210.
