Injury Crash Under Investigation as Possible DUI Near Old 40 Highway and North Street
A two-vehicle injury crash Monday evening is being investigated as a possible DUI incident, according to the Saline County Sheriff’s Office.
Captain Jim Hughes said the crash occurred at approximately 7:00 p.m. near the curve at Old 40 Highway and North Street.
Investigators determined that 64-year-old Harold Bailey was driving a 2012 GMC Acadia westbound when the vehicle crossed into the eastbound lane, which was occupied by a Ford F-350 pickup driven by a 47-year-old man.
The pickup driver was able to avoid a direct head-on collision, but the impact forced both vehicles off the roadway.
Deputies arriving at the scene found Bailey unconscious inside the Acadia and had to break a window to remove him from the vehicle.
Salina EMS transported Bailey to Salina Regional Health Center with injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening.
The driver of the Ford F-350 was not reported to have sustained serious injuries.
The crash remains under investigation, and authorities are evaluating whether impairment was a contributing factor.
