David Owen Johnson, Jr

David Owen Johnson, Jr , 76, of Salina, KS passed away June 29, 2026. Dave was born to David O Johnson, Sr and Edith F (Bowles) Johnson on November 9, 1949, in Osaka, Japan.

In 1967, Dave met Margo Morrow. They were married in January 1969. In that marriage they had 2 children, Daniel L (Danny) and Tina M Johnson.

Dave proudly served in the United States Air Force, taking him and his family to be stationed in Michigan, England, and Texas before returning to settle in Salina.

One thing is for sure, Dave enjoyed cars. His hobby from childhood, he became an avid model car builder. Through this hobby, he made many friends from coast to coast. He traveled to buy, sell, and grow his hobby to thousands of model cars over the years. It was not unusual for friends to come to the home and spend hours talking, selling, and buying model cars. It was his pride and joy to show off his collections!

Dave had a great sense of humor. He made friends easily and enjoyed making people laugh. He was proud to be a down to earth, friendly, and funny guy.

Dave is survived by his wife, Margo; son, Danny (Michelle); and daughter, Tina Johnson; three sisters, Judith Ann Courtney, (Ray), Sallie Jo Truitt (Randy), and Anita Kaye Ryerson (Greg); four grandsons, Torin Johnson (Lexi DeJulio), Tate Johnson, Trey Johnson, and Paxton Jones. He also had one great grandson, Kingam Owen Johnson, who died unexpectedly in 2022. Dave is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, step grandchildren and step great grandchildren.

Bob and Karen Wygal were Dave’s best friends. Bob was a friend from childhood, and they remained close friends, through all of Dave’s medical struggles. Bob and Karen are an amazing couple, and Dave loved them dearly.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm until 7:30pm, on Friday, July 10, 2026, at the Ryan Mortuary, Salina. A grave side service will take place Saturday at 10:00 am July 11, 2026 in the Gypsum Hill Cemetery, Salina with military honors provided by a U.S. Air Force Honor Guard. Family and friends are welcome.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Tammy Walker Cancer Center, Children’s Mercy Hospital-Child Leukemia Treatment Center; or Tunnel To Towers Foundation.
