Abilene Woman Arrested After Allegedly Purchasing $63,000 Vehicle With Check From Closed Account
An Abilene woman was arrested after allegedly purchasing a new vehicle from a Salina dealership using a check written on a closed bank account.
According to the Salina Police Department, employees of Marshall Motors reported on July 3, 2026, that a customer identified as Kara Runyon of Abilene purchased a 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee on June 19, 2026. The vehicle was valued at more than $63,000.
After the sale was completed, the dealership was contacted by the bank and informed that the check used for the purchase had been written on a closed account.
Dealership employees attempted to contact Runyon to resolve the matter, but she allegedly failed to return to the business.
Marshall Motors then contacted the Abilene Police Department for assistance. Officers in Abilene located both Runyon and the Jeep Grand Cherokee.
Runyon was transported to the Saline County Jail and booked on requested charges of Theft by Deception, Making False Information, and Giving a Worthless Check.
The vehicle was recovered and returned to Marshall Motors.
The investigation remains ongoing.
