Salina Reminds Renters of Fair Housing Protections for Families With Children

The City of Salina's Community Relations Division is reminding residents that rental agreements with different terms or conditions based on the presence of children may violate federal and local housing laws. The city cited both the Fair Housing Act and Chapter 13 of the Salina City Code as applicable protections.

According to the city, statements from landlords such as requiring all families with children to live on the first floor or prohibiting children from using pool facilities may constitute housing discrimination.

Residents who believe they have encountered such conditions in rental housing are encouraged to contact the Community Relations Division at (785) 309-5745 or by email at [email protected].
