Salina Approves Alcohol Permit for July 24 Santa Fe Showdown
The Salina City Commission unanimously approved an ordinance allowing alcoholic liquor to be possessed and consumed within a barricaded section of North Santa Fe Avenue during the Santa Fe Showdown.
Commissioners approved Ordinance No. 26-11289 on a 5-0 vote.
The event is scheduled from 5 to 11 p.m. Friday, July 24, in the 300 block of North Santa Fe Avenue.
Setup will begin at approximately 3 p.m., with teardown expected to be completed by 1 a.m. Saturday.
The owner of Calvin’s Customs and Hot Rod Repairs submitted applications for a special event permit, an alcoholic beverage special event retailer’s permit and an amplified sound permit.
Only the alcoholic beverage permit required approval from the City Commission. The remaining permits may be approved administratively through the city’s special event review process.
Alcohol Limited to Barricaded Event Area
The approved ordinance authorizes the possession and consumption of alcoholic liquor only within the designated event boundaries.
The area will be identified through barricades, signs, posted maps or other markings required under Kansas law and the Salina City Code.
Alcohol may not be carried outside the approved event area.
Event Located Outside Downtown Improvement District
The event will take place outside the boundaries of Downtown Business Improvement District No. 1.
Salina Downtown Inc. was notified as part of the city’s review process and indicated that it was aware of and supported the event.
Limited Financial Impact to City
City staff said the event is not expected to create a significant financial impact for the city beyond the routine provision of traffic-control devices.
