Jerry Ivey Announces Intent to Resign; City Has Not Issued Formal Notice
Salina City Commissioner and Vice Mayor Jerry Ivey announced his intention to resign Monday during an interview with KSAL News, but no formal resignation notice had been publicly issued by the City of Salina as of Monday afternoon.
KSAL reported that Ivey’s resignation is expected to take effect Friday, July 24. Ivey told the station that the decision was difficult and was made in the best interest of his family.
“I love Salina and I love being a commissioner, but I love my family more,” Ivey told KSAL.
However, Ivey’s comments to KSAL do not, by themselves, confirm that the formal resignation process has been completed.
Salina311 contacted Salina City Commissioner Doug Rempp and Greg Lenkiewiz. Lenkiewiz informed 311 that he received an email from Salina City Manager Jacob Wood at 5:03 PM notifying him of Jerry Ivey's resignation.
The City of Salina had also not issued a news release, public statement or other official notice concerning the resignation. No information about Ivey’s reported departure or the process for filling a potential vacancy had been posted on the city’s website.
The city’s website continued to list Ivey as a current member of the Salina City Commission and as vice mayor.
As a result, the resignation should be considered publicly announced but not yet formally confirmed by the City of Salina.
Ivey was elected to the City Commission in November 2023 and began serving in January 2024. He has approximately a year and a half remaining on his term.
Ivey told KSAL that he was proud of the city’s progress during his time on the commission, specifically citing housing, public safety, the Magnolia Village apartment development and construction of Fire Station No. 4.
The process and timeline for filling a vacancy have not been announced because the city has not yet formally confirmed that a vacancy will occur.
Salina311 will update this story if the City of Salina releases a formal resignation notice or additional information.
