McPherson Man Arrested After Rifle Fired in Salina Neighborhood
On July 18, 2026, at approximately 9:50 p.m., officers responded to the 1200 block of Markley after receiving reports of gunfire in the area.
Witnesses reported they were attending a gathering when they heard several loud pops and observed 19-year-old Jaxon Ensz of McPherson holding what appeared to be an AR-style rifle. Witnesses stated Ensz fired several rounds toward the east in the direction of Holmes Road.
Concerned for public safety, witnesses confronted Ensz, secured the rifle, and contacted law enforcement.
Officers arrived and took Ensz into custody. The investigation determined Ensz was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident.
Ensz was booked into the Saline County Jail on charges including Unlawful Discharge of a Firearm Within City Limits, Possession of a Firearm While Under the Influence, Consumption of Liquor by a Minor, Disorderly Conduct, and Possession of a Fraudulent Kansas Driver’s License. Additional charges may be filed as the investigation continues.
No injuries or property damage were reported. The rifle was seized as evidence.
