SALINA, Kan. — Jay Vanier, Republican candidate for the Kansas House of Representatives in District 71, has received an “AQ” rating from the National Rifle Association Political Victory Fund for the 2026 Kansas primary election.

The NRA-PVF awarded Vanier the rating based on his stated support for the Second Amendment, the right to self-defense and the rights of Kansas gun owners and hunters. The organization said the “AQ” designation is the highest rating it awards to candidates who do not currently hold elected office.

In a July 7 letter to Vanier, NRA Institute for Legislative Action State Director Kelvin Curtis said NRA members would view the rating as an indication that Vanier is a strong pro-gun and pro-hunting candidate who supports the right to keep and bear arms.

The rating reflects Vanier’s commitment to defending the constitutional rights of law-abiding Kansans and opposing government actions that would place unnecessary restrictions on responsible gun ownership.

Vanier is a Salina small-business owner and Republican candidate for Kansas House District 71. His campaign priorities include lowering property taxes, encouraging private-sector investment, reducing unnecessary regulations, expanding economic opportunity and protecting conservative Kansas values.

The Republican primary election is scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 4.
