Salina Man Arrested Following Domestic Violence Incident and Struggle With Officer

A Salina man faces multiple charges after an early morning domestic violence incident in the 1800 block of Lewis Avenue that resulted in injuries to both a victim and a responding officer.

At approximately 1:20 a.m., officers were dispatched to a residence after a 43-year-old woman called 911 to report an ongoing domestic disturbance.

According to investigators, the incident began earlier in the evening at a bar in Saline County, where 43-year-old Kyle A. Nelson allegedly strangled and struck the victim during an argument. The victim left the location after a bystander intervened.

Police said the argument continued after the pair returned to their residence in the 1800 block of Lewis. Nelson allegedly struck and choked the victim again and damaged property inside the home. When the victim went outside to obtain information from Nelson's vehicle and contact law enforcement, Nelson allegedly attacked and strangled her again in the front yard.

The first responding officer arrived and observed Nelson actively assaulting the victim. When the officer attempted to intervene, Nelson fled to the rear of the residence, leading to a foot pursuit and physical confrontation.

During two separate struggles, police said Nelson struck the officer multiple times in the head. Additional officers arrived and assisted in taking Nelson into custody. The victim also attempted to assist the officer during the incident.

The officer was transported to Salina Regional Health Center, where he was treated for a concussion and later released.

During the arrest, officers reportedly located marijuana and drug paraphernalia in Nelson's possession.

Nelson was booked into the Saline County Jail on requested charges that include aggravated domestic battery, domestic battery, criminal damage to property, aggravated battery of a law enforcement officer, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The investigation remains ongoing.
