Miranda Bachman received just over 55% of the vote and advances to face Republican incumbent Clarke Sanders in November.

Miranda Bachman won the Democratic nomination for Kansas House District 69 on Tuesday, defeating Meagan Rico by 113 votes in Saline County’s final unofficial election-night results.

The totals showed:

Miranda Bachman: 589 votes, or 55.3%
Meagan Rico: 476 votes, or 44.7%

A total of 1,065 votes were cast in the Democratic contest. Bachman finished approximately 10.6 percentage points ahead of Rico.

Bachman Advances to General Election

Bachman will advance to the Nov. 3 general election, where she is expected to face Republican state Rep. Clarke Sanders.

Sanders was unopposed in the Republican primary and received 2,307 votes in Saline County. The county’s official candidate filing list identifies Bachman and Rico as the Democratic candidates and Sanders as the Republican candidate for District 69.

Sanders has represented District 69 in the Kansas House since 2021. The district is located in Saline County.

Election-Day Votes Helped Bachman Build Lead

The candidates were nearly even among advance voters.

Bachman received 40 advance votes and 137 early votes, while Rico received 41 advance votes and 120 early votes. Bachman built most of her final margin on Election Day, receiving 412 votes compared with Rico’s 315.

The county results do not identify why voters selected either candidate.

Results Remain Unofficial

The totals are identified by Saline County as “Unofficial Election Night Results #4.” Provisional ballots and other eligible ballots must still be reviewed during the county canvass before the results become official.

The remaining process could slightly change the totals, but Bachman’s 113-vote advantage makes her the apparent Democratic nominee.

The District 69 contest now moves toward a November race between Bachman and Sanders.
