CENTER FOR THEATRE ARTS BEGINS FALL ENROLLMENT

Center for Theatre Arts has opened fall enrollment for classes at Theatre Salina. Center for Theatre Arts is the only academy program offering this variety of classes in dance, acting, and vocal performance in central Kansas. CTA serves students from walking age through adulthood.

The Center for Theatre Arts offers such genres as Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Conditioning, and Music Theatre Performance. Additional electives include Acro, Hip Hop, and Contemporary. New to the schedule this year are Pom for grades K-4 and 5-8, Adult Hip Hop, and Beginner Contemporary for grades 3-5. Throughout the year, CTA also offers weeklong “Triple Threat Camps” intended to introduce young people to the performing arts, led by staff and local performers. Classes begin September 14, 2026.

Classes take place on the campus of Theatre Salina, 303 E. Iron Ave. in Salina, Kansas. All studios are equipped with sprung floors for the health and safety of students. CTA classes follow an ever-evolving curriculum that aligns with both the National Core Standards for the Arts and Kansas State Department of Education Fine Arts Standards. The CTA staff features award-winning teachers with a passion for the continual education of their students and themselves to elevate the CTA program to the next level. Recital selections, songs, and costumes are developmentally appropriate for students.

The program is led by Maggie Spicer Brown. Maggie is a graduate of Oklahoma City University, one of the top performing arts programs in the country. Previous graduates include Tony Award winner Kristin Chenoweth and Tony nominee Kelli O’Hara, with whom Maggie studied. Maggie has toured nationally with “The Wizard of Oz,” performed at Casa Mañana in Texas, Lyric Theatre in Oklahoma City, and the Starlight Theatre in Kansas City. Most recently, she performed at Music Theatre Wichita in “Waitress” in June 2025 and returns this year to its stage in “Les Misérables.”

The Center for Theatre Arts also provides performance outlets for its students beyond its end-of-year recital weekend, CenterStage. CTA produces four fully mounted main-stage productions featuring young people performing for audiences: a fall production; a spring production; Summer Stage, for grades 4-8 in July; and Second Stage, for high school- and college-age performers in late July. CTA also just completed its 15th iteration of the annual Contemporary Dance Show, which has now featured 47 different choreographers and almost 170 different dancers.

This fall, Theatre Salina will begin construction on two new buildings on its campus. One is a storage/technical renovation that will also include additional wing space and an exciting new LED array to enhance productions in the future. The second space is for education, including two new large dance studios with sprung floors, natural lighting, and mutable lighting. This space will also house one large vocal performance studio and a smaller private vocal studio. The opening date for these facilities is fall 2027.

All classes and workshops are tuition-based, but scholarships are available. No child is ever turned away because of an inability to pay.

Anyone interested in enrolling in classes or who has questions can call Maggie at 785-827-6126.
