Salina Hits 109.9 Degrees Sunday Afternoon
Temperatures climbed to around 110 degrees in Salina Sunday afternoon as another round of dangerous summer heat moved across central Kansas.
The National Weather Service observation station at Salina Municipal Airport recorded a temperature of 109.9 degrees at 2:53 p.m. Sunday, August 9, the highest official reading reported so far today. At that time, the heat index was 110 degrees, with southwest winds at 25 mph and gusts reaching 35 mph.
Temperatures rose quickly throughout the day, increasing from about 92 degrees at 9:53 a.m. to 104 degrees before noon and 109 degrees shortly before 2 p.m.
A Heat Advisory remains in effect for Salina and Saline County until 8 p.m. Sunday. The National Weather Service said heat index values between 105 and 109 degrees are expected across portions of central and south-central Kansas.
The National Weather Service is forecasting a high near 102 degrees Monday and 104 degrees Tuesday, with heat index values near 105 possible through Wednesday.
Residents are encouraged to limit extended outdoor activity, drink plenty of fluids and check on people who may be particularly vulnerable to extreme heat.
