Saline County Clerk Jamie Doss Resigning; Republicans to Hold Convention for Replacement
SALINA, Kan. — Saline County Clerk Jamie R. Doss is resigning from the position effective Sept. 13, prompting the Saline County Republican Central Committee to schedule a convention to select someone to fill the remainder of her unexpired term.
The convention is scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 27, at the Courtyard by Marriott, 3020 Riffle Drive in Salina.
According to the Saline County Republican Party, only duly elected precinct committeemen and committeewomen elected Aug. 4 in Saline County will be eligible to vote during the convention.
Anyone interested in being considered for the position must contact Saline County Republican Party Chair Brenda Smith at 785-822-5794 by Friday, Aug. 21.
Candidates will be given an opportunity to speak before the vote.
Smith said the county clerk plays an important role in local government, including overseeing elections and maintaining public records.
Vice Chair Tony Newell also pointed to the clerk's responsibilities involving the county tax roll and coordination with local taxing entities.
The public and media are invited to attend the convention and observe the selection process.
The person selected at the convention will fill the remainder of Doss's unexpired term.
