Design Review Board Approves Signage for Salina's City Lights Pavilion
The Salina Business Improvement District Design Review Board voted to approve a certificate of compatibility for identification signage on the entrance arch at the City Lights Pavilion, 149 North Santa Fe Avenue, during its August 13, 2026 meeting.
According to staff, the proposal calls for one set of individual, non-illuminated letters reading "City Lights Pavilion" mounted to the existing gateway arch over the Santa Fe Avenue entrance. Staff said the letters would be 1 foot 4 inches tall, 6 inches deep, painted black, and span approximately 16 feet 4 and a quarter inches across the arch.
The property is in the C-4 Central Business District and within Business Improvement District number one, which requires Design Review Board approval before a sign permit can be issued. Staff noted the site has a sign area allowance of 72 square feet, while the proposed sign area is approximately 21.81 square feet.
Staff recommended approval, finding the sign appropriately scaled to the arch and compatible with the surrounding downtown setting. The board approved the application subject to the conditions in the staff report, which include staff verification of final dimensions, placement and mounting before a permit is issued, and a requirement that the sign remain non-illuminated. The applicant must still apply for a separate sign permit before installation.
