BREAKING: Gary Norris Selected as Salina’s Newest City Commissioner
SALINA, Kan. — Gary Norris has been selected to serve on the Salina City Commission, filling the vacant seat on the governing body.
Norris received the required three votes during Monday's Salina City Commission meeting, ending the commission's selection process.
Commissioners considered nominees individually through a roll-call vote. Under the process outlined during the meeting, the first nominee to receive at least three votes would be selected for the vacant position.
Norris was the first nominee considered and received three affirmative votes.
Vote on Gary Norris
Trent Davis — Yes
Greg Lenkiewicz — Yes
Doug Rempp — No
Mike Hoppock — Yes
Final vote: 3-1.
Because Norris immediately received the required three votes, commissioners did not proceed to votes on the remaining nominees.
Norris will become the fifth member of the Salina City Commission, joining Hoppock, Davis, Lenkiewicz and Rempp.
The vacancy was created following the resignation of Commissioner Jerry Ivey, whose resignation became effective July 24.
