Salina Man Arrested After Allegedly Firing Flare Gun at Bus Stop
A Salina man was arrested Thursday evening after allegedly firing a flare gun at another individual near a bus stop at Sunset Plaza.
At approximately 6 p.m. on Sept. 10, officers responded to the bus stop at 1201 W. Crawford after receiving a report of a subject possibly shooting a flare gun into traffic. Upon arrival, officers contacted a 30-year-old male who was walking away from the area. The man told officers he had been shot at with a flare gun by a known individual.
Officers also contacted 78-year-old W.L. McCullom. During the investigation, officers located a flare gun that had been fired and hidden prior to their arrival.
According to police, the investigation determined McCullom had observed the other man at the bus stop and confronted him about possibly stealing cigarettes. McCullom then allegedly produced a flare gun and fired it at the man. The flare missed the intended target and traveled across Crawford Street.
No injuries or property damage were reported as a result of the incident.
McCullom was taken into custody and booked into the Saline County Jail on requested charges of aggravated assault and criminal discharge of a firearm.
