Downtown Salina will become an outdoor dining room tonight as Feast on the Fe returns for its 10th annual farm-to-table event.

Organized by the Local Food Works Foundation, the event will take place on the 200 block of South Santa Fe Avenue and bring together chefs and locally sourced food for a five-course dinner highlighting the Salina-area food system.

Check-in begins at 5 p.m., with tables available on both the Walnut Street and Mulberry Street sides of the event area. A cash bar opens at 5:30 p.m., and dinner is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m.

Five chefs from Saline County and surrounding communities will each prepare a course using food intended to highlight local producers and the regional food system. Optional drink tickets include a wine pairing with each of the five courses.

Feast on the Fe began in 2016 and has developed into an annual downtown event centered on connecting local farmers, food producers, chefs and residents.

The Local Food Works Foundation says the event typically serves about 200 guests and also incorporates locally produced music, drinks and flowers.

Proceeds support the foundation's grant program, which provides up to $5,000 annually to farmers, chefs and others working on projects that bring locally produced food into Saline County or strengthen the area's local food system.

This year's Feast on the Fe will also serve as a food drive. Attendees are being encouraged to bring canned fruits and vegetables for the Salina Family YMCA food pantry. Collection boxes will be available at both event check-in locations.

The event runs from 5 to 9 p.m. today at 242 S. Santa Fe Ave.
