Kansas crop progress: 6.1 fieldwork days; corn harvest at 29% for week ending Sept. 13

For the week ending Sept. 13, 2026, there were 6.1 days suitable for fieldwork, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service.

Topsoil moisture supplies rated 30% very short, 36% short, 30% adequate and 4% surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 27% very short, 39% short, 31% adequate and 3% surplus.

Field crops

Winter wheat planted was 4%, equal to last year and near 6% for the five-year average.

Corn condition rated 16% very poor, 19% poor, 23% fair, 32% good and 10% excellent. Corn dented was 93%, equal to last year and near 90% average. Mature was 75%, well ahead of 53% last year and ahead of 57% average. Harvested was 29%, well ahead of 9% last year and ahead of 18% average.

Soybean condition rated 10% very poor, 19% poor, 32% fair, 33% good and 6% excellent. Soybeans setting pods was 96%, near 95% last year and 94% average. Dropping leaves was 43%, well ahead of 23% last year and ahead of 30% average. Harvested was 1%, equal to average.

Sorghum condition rated 14% very poor, 23% poor, 35% fair, 21% good and 7% excellent. Sorghum headed was 95%, near 99% last year and 97% average. Coloring was 72%, near 74% last year and 73% average. Mature was 36%, ahead of 28% last year and 25% average. Harvested was 3%, equal to both last year and average.

Cotton condition rated 8% very poor, 28% poor, 40% fair, 21% good and 3% excellent. Cotton bolls opening was 68%, well ahead of 20% last year and 44% average. Harvested was 3%.

Sunflowers harvested was 1%.

Pasture and range

Pasture and range conditions rated 16% very poor, 24% poor, 34% fair, 24% good and 2% excellent.
