Diesel Hits $6.29 A Gallon In Salina
Diesel fuel was posted at $6.29 per gallon Wednesday evening at the Casey’s General Store at Ohio Street and Iron Avenue in Salina, highlighting the sharp increase in fuel costs facing local drivers and businesses.
The station’s roadside sign showed regular unleaded gasoline at $4.19 per gallon, or $4.09 with a car wash, leaving diesel more than $2 per gallon higher than regular gasoline.
At $6.29 per gallon, filling a vehicle or piece of equipment that takes 30 gallons of diesel would cost nearly $189. A semi-truck taking 200 gallons would cost approximately $1,258 to fill from empty at the posted price.
The higher diesel prices are particularly significant for trucking companies, contractors, farmers and other businesses that rely heavily on diesel-powered vehicles and equipment. Higher transportation costs can also work their way into the prices businesses pay to move goods.
Fuel prices can vary considerably between stations, and the Casey’s price represents the posted price at the Ohio and Iron location, not an average for Salina.
