Salina Man Arrested After Alleged Domestic Assault and Kidnapping

A Salina man was arrested late Thursday night following a domestic violence investigation in south Salina.
At approximately 11:30 p.m. on Sept. 24, officers were dispatched to the 600 block of S. Second Street after receiving reports of a man yelling at a woman while parked in the middle of the roadway. The vehicle reportedly left the area before officers arrived.
A short time later, officers received another report of a woman crying while being yelled at by a man in the 600 block of S. Third Street. When officers arrived, they observed a woman attempting to gain entry into an apartment by banging on a door. Officers also observed a man, later identified as 37-year-old Deay Joseph Balchick, standing on the apartment landing.
According to police, as an officer attempted to speak with the woman, Balchick stepped in front of the officer and stated the officer would not be speaking with her. Officers instructed Balchick to move aside, but he refused. When officers advised him he was under arrest, Balchick allegedly resisted before being taken into custody.
During the investigation, a 33-year-old woman told officers she and Balchick, whom she knew, had been involved in an argument while driving in the 600 block of S. Second Street. The woman reported she exited the vehicle in an attempt to get away, but Balchick allegedly grabbed her and forced her back into the vehicle.
The victim reported the confrontation continued after they arrived in the 600 block of S. Third Street. According to police, Balchick threw the woman to the ground, struck her, and choked her during the altercation. Investigators also reported that a necklace the victim was wearing was broken during the incident.
Balchick was booked into the Saline County Jail on requested charges of aggravated domestic battery, domestic battery, kidnapping, interference with law enforcement, and criminal damage to property.
