Microsurfacing continues on Salina streets through Oct. 2

Microsurfacing continues on City of Salina streets from Sunday, Sept. 27, through Friday, Oct. 2, weather permitting, with Vance Brothers of Kansas City, Missouri, performing the work, according to a city news release.

Daytime work is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Marcella Drive from Huehl Circle to the south end; Prairie Lane from Crawford to Quail Hollow; Eastborough from Seitz to the south end; Hillside Road from west of Fairdale to Fairdale; Edgehill Road from Knollcrest to Seitz; Knollcrest; Fairdale Road from Glen to south of Edgehill; Fairdale Road from Brookwood to Applewood; Ash Street from Broadway to 9th; and Ash Street from 3rd to Ohio.

Nighttime work is scheduled from 6:30 p.m. to 6 a.m. on Ash from 9th to 3rd; Broadway from Chicago to Pacific; and 9th from Euclid to Bhakta. Traffic control for overnight work begins at 6:30 p.m., with all lanes scheduled to reopen by 6 a.m.

Local residential streets will be closed during daytime construction for periods not to exceed 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Residents will receive notice, and special requests will be accommodated. Arterial and collector streets will remain open and be resurfaced under traffic. Motorists should expect delays and are encouraged to use alternate routes when possible.

Microsurfacing is a polymer-modified asphalt slurry about 3/8 inch thick that coats the pavement, seals smaller cracks and extends roadway service life. Streets are typically scheduled for microsurfacing on a six- to eight-year cycle.

The $950,000 project is part of the city’s $5.9 million 2026 maintenance capital improvement program.
