Flood Watch in Effect for Saline County Through Thursday Evening
The National Weather Service in Wichita has issued a Flood Watch for Saline County, along with Barton and Ellsworth counties. The watch is in effect until 7 p.m. Thursday.
A Flood Watch means conditions are favorable for flooding. It does not mean flooding is happening, but residents should be ready to act if warnings are issued.
Salina was at 72 degrees with light rain and fog late Wednesday morning. The forecast calls for a high near 75 today with a 95% chance of showers and thunderstorms. Storms are likely again tonight, with a 72% chance and a low around 66.
Rain and storms are expected to continue Thursday, with a 79% chance during the day and a 56% chance Thursday night.
Localized Flooding Possible
The National Weather Service in Wichita said pockets of very heavy rain could cause localized flooding.
What Salina Residents Should Know
- Avoid driving through flooded roadways. The National Weather Service's standard advice is to turn around rather than attempt to cross water of unknown depth.
- Check low-lying areas, basements and drainage paths around your property.
- Keep a way to receive weather alerts, such as a weather radio or phone alerts, especially overnight.
- Check the forecast before traveling Thursday.
Drier weather is expected to return Friday.
