Salina weather, Saline County, severe storms, Flood Watch, National Weather Service
The National Weather Service in Wichita is warning of afternoon and evening storms in the Salina area, with the main window roughly 1 to 8 p.m. today. Brief tornadoes are possible, along with wind gusts of 50 to 60 mph, heavy rain and localized flooding.
A Flood Watch also remains in effect for Saline County until 7 p.m. Thursday. A watch means conditions are favorable for flooding; it does not mean flooding is occurring.
What to Expect
- Timing: Storms are expected this afternoon and evening, roughly 1 to 8 p.m.
- Tornadoes: Brief tornadoes are possible.
- Wind: Gusts of 50 to 60 mph are possible.
- Rain: Heavy rain could cause localized flooding.
Safety Tips
- If a Tornado Warning is issued, go immediately to a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor of a well-built building. Mobile homes and vehicles are not safe places to shelter.
- Do not drive through flooded roadways. Turn around rather than cross water of unknown depth.
- Keep weather alerts turned on, such as a weather radio or phone alerts, in case storms continue after dark.
- Secure or bring in loose outdoor items before the storms arrive.
- Check on neighbors who may need help.
Rain and storms are expected to continue Thursday, with drier weather returning Friday.
